Frequently Asked Questions
I understand that as a parent or carer, you may have questions about how therapy sessions work, confidentiality, payments, and practical arrangements like drop-off and pick-up. Below, I’ve provided clear answers to help you feel informed and comfortable.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch. I look forward to supporting your child on their journey!
1. What is Person-Centred Therapy?
Person-Centred Therapy is a humanistic approach that focuses on each individual’s capacity for self-discovery and personal growth. When working with children and young people, I tailor sessions to create a safe and supportive environment where they can freely express their emotions and thoughts through creative methods such as play, art, and storytelling.
2. How are therapy sessions structured?
My sessions are child-centred and designed to be engaging. Through creative activities like art, sand tray therapy, and play, children and young people can express their feelings in a way that feels natural and safe for them.
3. How Long is a session?
Counselling sessions for children and adults are 50 minutes. Clinical supervision is 50 minutes or 65 minutes. For group supervision bookings, please contact me to discuss further.
4. How is confidentiality handled?
Confidentiality is crucial in therapy. Everything discussed in sessions remains private unless there is a safeguarding concern where the child is at risk of harm. In such cases, I follow legal and ethical guidelines to ensure their safety. Please see the Policies page fore more information.
5. How does drop-off and pick-up work?
When you arrive for your child’s session, please ring the doorbell at my front door. I will meet you there and walk your child down to the counselling room, which is located in my garden office.
Unfortunately, there is no waiting room available. While your child is in session, you are welcome to explore St Columb Major, which has small shops and a rich history. Mawgan Porth beach is also just a 10-minute drive away. Alternatively, some parents choose to wait in their car.
Please ensure you return at the agreed time, as I may have another appointment scheduled immediately after your child’s session.
6. Where can I park?
Once we have agreed that therapy will start and payment has been made for the session, I will send you my address and postcode. If you are using a Sat-Nav, it will guide you to my house, which is on the left-hand side of the road. My property has undergone recent renovations, so you may notice building supplies outside.
There may be parking available on the road, but if not, additional parking is approximately 50 metres down near “the green.” Please be mindful when parking, as this is a residential street. Avoid blocking driveways and note that there are designated disabled bays.
7. Is the counselling room accessible?
The counselling room is located in my garden office and is accessed via a small alleyway and steps. Unfortunately, this means there is no wheelchair access at present.
8. What is Sand Tray Therapy, and how is it used?
Sand Tray Therapy is a form of play therapy where children use miniature figures and a sandbox to create scenes that reflect their thoughts and emotions. This non-verbal method allows children to communicate and process their feelings in a powerful and symbolic way.
9. Are there toilet facilities available?
Currently, there are no toilet facilities in the counselling room. However, there are public toilets available in St Columb Major town centre.
10. What are the session fees and payment options?
Each session costs £45 for childrens sessions. £50 for adults. Please see my Supervision page on prices for that. Payments can be made via bank transfer and are paid in advance of your booking. Once you have paid, your booking is confirmed. Please contact me if this is ever an issue. Payment in bulk can also be arranged, please do let me know if this is something you would like to do.
11. When should I arrive for my child’s session?
Please arrive exactly at your allocated time. To maintain confidentiality for all clients, I kindly ask that you do not arrive early, as I may be with another client.
12. I will be accessing sessions online, how does that work?
Once we have agreed together that online sessions would work, and payment has been made. I will send you a Zoom link. This is a free platform for you to use. Please familiarise yourself with Zoom before our session. We will use the same Zoom link for each session so it is always best to save the email with the link in for ease.
